The Florida Provisional Conference of The Global Methodist Church met on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in a special session to consider a motion from the cabinet to add a fifth district…This growth has caused the existing four districts to become larger than intended, with the current North District having forty churches…Conference President pro tempore, the Rev. Jay Therrell, announced the names of the new Districts and their presiding elders (superintendents) taking effect on July 1, 2024:
Atlantic North District: the Rev. Corky Calhoun (Georgianna Church, Merritt Island)
Atlantic South District: the Rev. Cesar Villafana (Wesley Hispanic Methodist Church, Miami)
Central District: the Rev. Scott George (Belle Isle Community Church)
Gulf North District: the Rev. Mike Fordham (Killearn Methodist Church, Tallahassee)
Gulf South District: the Rev. Vicki Harrison (New Hope Church, Brandon)
The Rev. Tim Carson, our current presiding elder for the South District, where we are located, will move to senior status on August 1, 2024 and he will be retiring to Virginia with his wife, Cindy. The Rev. Pattie Thue, presiding elder for the Central North District, will return to the local church. Therrell heaped praise on both Revs. Carson and Thue for their leadership and strong efforts to help get the Florida Conference off the ground.
These growing pains will put our Two-Point Charge of Moore Haven and Clewiston into the newly config-ured Atlantic South District. Details will be posted and updated soon on our Florida GMC website at floridagmc.org.
